Neumann/Smith
provided master planning for the renovation, refurbishment and
enhancement of the 20 year old Electrical Engineering & Computer Science
(EECS) building to increase departmental efficiency and provide
flexibility for changing teaching and research requirements. Interviews
with the Department’s administration, faculty, staff and students
provided the basis for developing a facility program summary to guide
the schematic design studies for the proposed renovation. Programming
studies focused on the faculty offices, originally built to minimal
standards, as well as on instructional spaces (both classrooms and
laboratories) which needed to be upgraded to current standards
supporting multi-media presentation and evolving teaching and research
modes.
Neumann/Smith provided architecture and interior design services for the
creation of a new student commons, a computer lab and a variety of large
and small conference rooms within the atrium. New flooring, lighting,
furniture and other architectural details provide an energized and
active social environment for students and faculty.
