This is the first University owned student housing on the Flint
campus. The addition of on-campus student housing allows the University to
attract students from beyond its traditional commuter range including out-of
state and international students.
The prototypical student residence includes two and four bedroom apartment
units for 311 single students, residence assistants and a residence manager.
The facility also provides space for basic services including a reception
and control desk at a single point of entry, management offices, mailroom,
laundry room, activity room, study/library room, live-learn multipurpose
classrooms, quiet study rooms, and vending machine areas on the main floor.
On each living unit floor, multiple community common/lounge spaces are
provided.
A traditional design-bid-build delivery method was utilized for this project
to meet the construction cost set by the University. The
project came in 10% below budget.
