a new use for a historic Detroit space
DIME
Balancing the specific needs of a modern music academy and the historic elements of an iconic Detroit building, Neumann/Smith renovated the Bamlet building in Capitol Square to house the Detroit Institute of Music Education. The renovation included classrooms, practice studios, a stage for live performances, a high-end sound system, and a 300-person underground music venue, all while updating the long-vacant space to meet current codes.
